Stable Hearts
I built Stable Hearts — an interactive game that lets you experience the Gale-Shapley stable matching algorithm firsthand. You create a character, meet candidates, rank your preferences, then watch round-by-round as math finds you a provably stable match. The twist? You play twice — once as the Proposer, once as the Decider — and discover that who makes the first move changes everything. This algorithm won Shapley a Nobel Prize in 2012. It's used in real life to match medical residents to hospitals, students to schools, and even organ donors to recipients. The core idea: no matter how messy everyone's preferences are, there's ALWAYS a way to pair everyone up so that no two people would rather ditch their partners for each other. The catch? The side that proposes always gets the better deal. Proposers end up with their best possible stable partner. Deciders get their worst. Same people, same preferences — different outcomes depending on who makes the first move. I wanted to make that invisible math feel real, so I built this game with Claude (Anthropic's AI) as my coding partner. Design to working app, fully vibe-coded.
