For the past few weeks, ephemeral software has been flooding our timelines, in the format of games: creators making mashups like Call of Duty x Skate 4, new experiences based on other media like The Little Price, and most recently, an influx of mini-games around Tesla’s flying Roadster.

What’s going on? As software creation becomes virtually free, we're going to see it used for cultural expression in ways we haven't before. What we saw this week was just the start.

Apps we dropped this week

Taste Benchmark

If AI models had a Letterboxd, what movies would be in their top 4? We compiled the data and averaged the Letterboxd scores for each model’s movie of choice, and ranked them in Taste Benchmark.

Want to see how your taste compares to a model aggregating all online information? With Taste Benchmark, you can see where you land.

We Can See Everything

To celebrate the release of Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s You Can See Everything, we’re putting our faces on their omnipresent movie billboards (at least, digitally).

2016 XXL Freshman Cypher Museum

According to Mike, 2016 XXL Freshman Cypher is as great of an artwork as the Mona Lisa. If you agree with him, you can now put your skills to the test in his new app, that lets you admire it like a painting.

some of the greatest works of art aren't hanging in museums like the 2016 XXL freshman cypher so i made a website where you can admire it like a painting — @immike_wing

Cheeky Pint Game

If you saw the Cheeky Pint benchmark and thought “I can definitely drink more than that”, we made a game for you to play in the middle of your work day; you can get the dopamine hit of beating Elon Musk’s record while staying sober to crunch numbers or whatever it is your day job is.

We turned Cheeky Pint into a game so you can outdrink everyone on this list slopfactory.tv/cheekypint — @slopfactorytv

Depth Map

When anyone can make anything, do we continue to use Photoshop, or do we opt for 1000s of different versions of it? Arina is making creative apps with a point-of-view; her new app depth map allows you turn any image into a depth & heat map.

Writing we shared this week

Rachel wrote about the first app she ever completed, Tech or Fashion; she struggled to get it off the ground, but once she reframed the act of creating software as an artistic pursuit, things started to fall into place.

Art and software are more similar than you think

Thanks for staying in the loop — see y’all next week!
